Step by step instructions to Use the French Expression ÃÅ¡tre en Train de The French articulation à ªtre en train de (pronouncedâ eh tra(n) treh(n) deu)â means to be presently or to do. This little expression when joined with an infinitive is what could be compared to the Englishâ present dynamic, which French needs. Bauhaus and Modernism Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3500 words
Bauhaus and Modernism - Essay Example In the murmuring austere passage prompting his office, he stops before a metal box brimming with chilled metal chambers. He embeds a few cleaned silver circles into an opening and presses one of the gleaming square fastens to get a cutting edge wonder of safeguarded mass-delivered fluid. Entering his office, he settles once more into a cylindrical metal seat and gets one of the outdated yet encouraging papers looking out for a close by projection of the divider that serves him as a work area. As he tastes his beverage and outputs the features, an article draws his eye since it is contained inside a somewhat concealed box and uses intense, sans-serif letters. The words educate him that expansion is making the economy breakdown. On edge to secure the little space he considers his own, the man at that point goes to the electronic box sitting around his work area as a quicker and progressively engaged methods for increasing fundamental data. As he trusts that the glinting lights will cho ose his rectangular screen, he out of nowhere contemplates the amount of his reality is molded by boxes. He understands that they cause him to feel commonplace and normalized and deep down accuses the Modernist development that was conceived out of the Bauhaus. In the event that he set aside the effort to follow that line of reasoning, however, the man would discover that the Bauhaus and the Modernist development were centered rather around thoughts of solace and innovative recognition. The most punctual components of what todayââ¬â¢s specialists allude to as attributes of the cutting edge time frame emerged through the joined energies of the Arts and Crafts Movement.

Driving On The Infinite
Driving On The Infinite I dont have many pet peeves when it comes to MIT, but one of the biggest is people who do not understand how to drive on the Infinite Corridor. The Infinite is essentially a 4-lane road with 2 lanes going in each direction. Of these two, the one closest to the wall is the lane for slow people, or people who wish to check out the bulletin boards. The other lane is the fast lane, or passing lane. I drive defensively, but I still manage to get into accidents pretty much every day because of the surplus of amateurs on the road. People, really its not that hard. Read and learn. If the Infinite is crowded, consider the center line a double-yellow line. Do not merge into oncoming traffic for any reason. You will get run over. If the Infinite is not crowded, consider the center line a broken yellow line. Merge into oncoming traffic only if you need to pass someone who is driving in your own passing lane (which is aggressive, but hey) and yield to oncoming traffic if it should appear. People already on the Infinite have the right-of-way, so you must imagine that every hallway leading into the Infinite has a stop sign. When approaching the Infinite, first stop, then look both ways, and then make your right or left turn onto the Infinite. Running a stop sign will frequently lead to a collision. Bathroom exits have stop signs too. If you are traveling with a group, do not, under any circumstances, use all four lanes to travel in the same direction. You will cause amazing gridlock and your Infinite Corridor karma will be damaged for weeks, resulting in parking tickets whenever you stop to use a water fountain. There is no carpool lane on the Infinite. I dont care how big your group is. No carpool lane! Hang up the phone and drive. Lobby 7 and Lobby 10 can be considered rest stops. When stopping at a rest stop on an interstate highway, do you park at the rest stop itself or just stop in the middle of the highway? The Infinite is no different! Im sure there are things that Im forgetting, but these should get you started. Anyone know where I can get a portable horn? Now that would make driving on the Infinite a whole lot better. ;-)

Sample of Global Warming Essay
Sample of Global Warming Essay Global Warming ââ¬â Hot Button Issue One of the most discussed and debated issues nowadays are global warming and its direct and indirect influence on the humanity and on the Earth as a whole. One of the biggest concerns of the global warming is its unexplored nature and, in the majority of cases, unknown patterns. What have changed during the last decade and what made this topic go on the top lines of the scientific researches? If ten or even seven years ago we were talking about global warming as one of the possible problems without clear perception of how it can really change our lives, today we have to face some of the evident consequences of what scientists call an increase in the near-surface average temperature of the Earth. And this practical experience makes us more aware and alert about global warming and the risks it may pose to humanity. The variety of opinions leaves a great room for creativity and doubts to those who has only a helicopter view on this issue. Should you decide to go through the critical enviromentalistsââ¬â¢ ideas and prognoses for climate change, such as the one presented by B. Lomborg, familiarize yourself with scientific climatologistsââ¬â¢ reports of R. Alley or dive into religious discussion about climate change: you will hardly be able to build a clear understanding of the real meaning of this climate phenomena. Global warming not only attracts attention of scientists or philosophical and religious institutions but also is extensively debated on the political arena. The attention brought to this issue is, by itself, the best proof of how highly affected and insecure the humanity is in the face of nature. The fact is that we

The Violence Of The Civil Rights Movement - 1152 Words
Harris County sheriff, Ron Hickman makes this statement at a press conference after a police officer was brutally murdered. ââ¬Å"At any point when the rhetoric ramps up to the point where calculated, coldblooded assassinations of police officers happen, this rhetoric has gotten out of control. Weââ¬â¢ve heard ââ¬Ëblack lives matter.ââ¬â¢ All lives matter. Well, cops lives matter too. So why donââ¬â¢t we just drop the qualifier and just say ââ¬Ëlives matter,ââ¬â¢ and take that to the bank.â⬠With this statement Hickman is insinuating that black people never protested for peace amongst all races. During the civil rights movement (1954-68) leaders such as A. Philip Randolph, Martin Luther King, Jr., and Thurgood Marshall fought for equal rights and to stop the senseless race killing. But as we fast forward 50 years later it seems like we nearly fighting the same battle. So when we say black lives matter, yes we mean only black because it seems to have been forgo tten, or never learned. Recently though the movement has come under scrutiny and has been labeled by some as a hate group. I believe BLM is not a terrorist group instead due to all the years of turmoil and hardships itââ¬â¢s about time we fought back to stop the killing and discriminating of black people. The general election of 2002 â⬠Voter apathy Free Essays
a) Political apathy is when the voters feel disillusioned by the current state of politics. They feel that there is no point in voting because their vote will have no impact. In areas of high Labour support a conservative voter may feel little point in voting because it will have no effect. We will write a custom essay sample on The general election of 2002 ââ¬â Voter apathy or any similar topic only for you Order Now This means that that person, while still interested in politics, feels that their vote will be worthless and that they can do nothing to change the system. Also as the political parties move closer together in ideologies this means that voters no longer see much of a difference in who they choose to vote for which means they donââ¬â¢t really feel the need to vote because it will make no difference and they donââ¬â¢t care who is in power because they donââ¬â¢t see that it affects them very much. On the very basic level this means that people may not be interested in politics at all. Less and less people watch the news each day, newspaper buying is in decline and the most popular programme is Eastenders. Programmes like Question time and other political debate programmes never get high ratings and this shows a continuing trend. People these days donââ¬â¢t care about the government, donââ¬â¢t feel that the government effects them, donââ¬â¢t see any difference in the government and so donââ¬â¢t really care who wins and this all boils down to Political apathy. b) No campaign differences Vote worthlessness Donââ¬â¢t like anyone Too busy for something which does not matter. One of the main reasons for low voter turnout could have been the fact that more and more people do not see a difference between the parties. Whilst Labour and the Conservatives claim to have different ideologies their methods of running the country do not vary a great deal. In fact many people do not really notice much of difference from the way the country was run pre-1997 and how it was run afterwards. New Labour is very different to old Labour and thus it occupies the same space as the Conservatives did. This means that people feel that it does not matter who wins the election because nothing really changes for them on a street level. When people feel like that they then see no point in voting. Another small factor could be that Labour supporters felt unhappy at the way labour had acted but could not bring themselves to vote for Conservatives so they decided not to vote at all out of principle. Perhaps the biggest factor is that people feel that there vote wonââ¬â¢t make a difference. The problem with that is that they are correct. If there is a Labour supporter in a region which is a conservatives area then there is no point in that voting because the vote will not make a difference. Thatââ¬â¢s not just a myth, that is true and people know this. Why take the time and the trouble to vote when it will do nothing. Being armed with this knowledge will mean that people will not bother to vote because they know that 1 vote will not make a difference anywhere. One way to reverse this is to get everyone in England to vote for a party and not for a candidate, which means every vote would be used in getting a party elected. The parties would then be able to win a number of MPââ¬â¢s where then put into certain areas. Also in 2001, it is a fact that more people felt that they tough no one really represented what they wanted. This meant that they had no one to vote for and they did not want to vote for another party. This would mean that around 10% of the country had no one to vote for and that is a lot of votes that would not have been cast because of that. Another smaller factor is that people are busier and more stressed than ever these days. Many people may simply have not had had time to go to a polling booth to vote and coupled with the aforementioned facts, people may not have been that bothered to vote anyhow. But it is still true that people may just feel that they donââ¬â¢t have enough time to go and vote and so just stay away. One reason, which is similar to another reason, which has been mentioned, is that people did not vote because they were happy with the current govt. If people feel that the current govt. is doing a good job then they donââ¬â¢t feel the need to vote against it or to vote for it (the pollââ¬â¢s all said Labour were going to win anyway). People were happy with Labour and did not want anyone else so they did not feel the need to vote unlike other instances where people are very unhappy with the state that the country is in and vote to get a new party elected to make some changes. If people are happy with the current govt. then they will not waste voting because they donââ¬â¢t need to. How to cite The general election of 2002 ââ¬â Voter apathy, Papers

The Once And Future King Arthurs Failure Essay Example For Students
The Once And Future King Arthurs Failure Essay He was only a man who had meant well, who had been spurred along the course of thinking by an eccentric necromancer with a weakness for humanity. Justice had been his last attempt-to do nothing which was not just. But it had ended in failure (White, OAFK 634). The he in this passage refers to King Arthur, the main character in T.H. Whites The Once and Future King and Book of Merlyn, who failed in his attempt to unite England due to the mistakes made by him and those close to him. Arthur, betrayed by those close to him, not properly educated on the greedy, selfish, and violent heart of man, failed in his attempt to create a stable, progressive, and peaceful society. We will write a custom essay on The Once And Future King Arthurs Failure specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now To begin with, those close to Arthur made mistakes that would lead to his eventual downfall. Merlyns forgetfulness kept him from informing Arthur of his mothers name. .. .but suddenly he remembered it in his sleep-the simplest thing! It was Arthurs mothers name which he had forgotten to mention in the confusion! (White, OAFK 310). If Arthur had known the identity of his mother he would not have slept with his own sister, .. .but it seems, in tragedy, that innocence is not enough (White, OAFK 312). This account with his sister created Mordred, who, taught by his mother that revenge had to be taken, would be his fathers killer. Others close to Arthur betrayed him as well. Gwenevers selfishness and jealousy as well as Lancelots evil steak played an important role in the Kings downfall. They chose to sleep with each other behind the Kings back, knowing that the discovery of their affair would destroy his lifes work. If Gwen and Lance could have just come to the realization that they could not sleep each other and still be loyal to their King, this tragedy would not have taken place. Perhaps Lance put it best when he said . ..your friend can hardly be your friend if he is also going to be your betrayer (White, OAFK 336).Arthur did not receive a proper education on the greedy, selfish, and violent heart of man. As the young Wart growing up in the Forest Sauvage, Arthur had been taught by an aged benevolence, wagging a white beard. He had been taught by Merlyn to believe that man was perfectible: that he was on the whole more decent that beastly; that good was worth trying: that there was no such thing as original sin. He had been forged as a weapon for the aid of man, on the assumption that men were good ..the whole structure depended on the first premise; that man was decent (White OAFK 628). Because Arthur possessed such a wise and loving tutor who showed him the good and decent side of human nature, he himself grew up . ..kind, simple, and upright (White OAFK 387) Merlyn taught him through the use of animals that were much more peaceful and serene than humans could ever hope to be. Because Arthur possessed such a kind and moral heart, he could not find it in his heart to hate his best friend, his wife, or anyone for betraying him, and his forgiving nature and naivete eventually led to his downfall. If Merlyn had only showed him that all men possessed a streak of evil in them, Arthur would not have been so quick to assume that all men were good for if there was such a thing as original sin, if man was on the whole a villain, if the bible was right in saying that the hearts of men were deceitful above all things and desperately wicked, then the purpose of his life had been a vain one (White OAFK 629). .u072e1c66a18db73a81d2f6b25f376193 , .u072e1c66a18db73a81d2f6b25f376193 .postImageUrl , .u072e1c66a18db73a81d2f6b25f376193 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u072e1c66a18db73a81d2f6b25f376193 , .u072e1c66a18db73a81d2f6b25f376193:hover , .u072e1c66a18db73a81d2f6b25f376193:visited , .u072e1c66a18db73a81d2f6b25f376193:active { border:0!important; } .u072e1c66a18db73a81d2f6b25f376193 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u072e1c66a18db73a81d2f6b25f376193 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u072e1c66a18db73a81d2f6b25f376193:active , .u072e1c66a18db73a81d2f6b25f376193:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u072e1c66a18db73a81d2f6b25f376193 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u072e1c66a18db73a81d2f6b25f376193 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u072e1c66a18db73a81d2f6b25f376193 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u072e1c66a18db73a81d2f6b25f376193 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u072e1c66a18db73a81d2f6b25f376193:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u072e1c66a18db73a81d2f6b25f376193 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u072e1c66a18db73a81d2f6b25f376193 .u072e1c66a18db73a81d2f6b25f376193-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u072e1c66a18db73a81d2f6b25f376193:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: The Most Dangerous Game (Exposition 10 Paragra EssayIn the end, Arthur lost his battle with might and failed to create a stable, peaceful, and progressive society. This was due to several factors including the mistakes made by those close to him, his naivete and forgiving nature, and the evil and/or ignorance that lurks in the hearts of men. If he could have just known that none were as lucky as he had been, concerning the lessons he had been taught as a boy. He, unfortunately for himself, had been beautifully brought up. His teacher had educated him as the child is educated in the womband, like the child in the womb, he had been protected with love meanwhile. The effect of such an education was that he had grown without any of the useful accomplishments for living-without malice, vanity, suspicion, cruelty, and commoner forms of selfishness. Jealousy seemed to him the most ignoble of vices. He was sadly unfitted for hating his best friend or for torturing his wife. He had been given too much love and trust to be good at these things (White, OAFK 389) In other words, if Arthur gained exposure to hate, jealousy, and greed, he would have known how to retaliate against it and handle it. But, being incapable of such feelings and emotions, it enabled people to treat him harshly, knowing that he could not hate them for it. He underestimated Might, believing that it could be eliminated just as he felt that the nature of men could be perfected. In T.H. Whites OAFK and BOM, Arthur, not give the proper education on the violent, selfish, and greedy hearts of men, was not able to create a stable, progressive, and peaceful society because he, as well as those close to him made mistakes that eventually led to his downfall. Arthur grew up in a loving and kind environment, making him incapable of hate, jealousy, and greed. This led him to forgive and love those who betrayed him and treated him badly. His close friends, in return, continued to betray him for they, not being capable of such decency and kindness as he put out, knew he would love them no matter what they did. The task set before this kind and good-hearted king was doomed to fail. Just as the grass-snake told him in the Book of Merlyn, You will fail because it is in the nature of men to slay, in ignorance if not in wrath. But failure builds success and nature changes. A good mans example always does instruct the ignorant and lesson their rage, little by little through the ages, until the spirit of the waters is content: and so, strong courage to Your Majesty, and a tranquil heart (White, BOM 128)

Baby think it over Reflection.
Baby think it over Reflection. When we were children, we depended on our parents to help us grow, provide us with food, clothing, shelter, and nurture us. However, as we grew older, we became more independent, learning how to do things for ourselves, and care for ourselves. This independence does not last very long because when you have a baby you are not putting yourself first anymore, it is not the baby that you attend to first. Throughout this course, we have learned about the many responsibilities of parenthood and the amount of effort it requires. Being given a baby to take care of for a week gave me a better sense as to how having a real baby would be life. When I first received my baby, I thought it would be a fun experience, and that taking care of a baby couldnt possibly be that difficult. However, as the days progressed, I had new responsibilities.Baby in walker. The baby had to be brought with me everywhere I went. Had it been left unattended, it would have cried, and I would not be able to hear it.Also, I could not sleep peacefully during the night as it would usually cry and wake me up every 3-4 hours. This made me feel exhausted and tired, but I learned that it was something that had to be dealt with when having a child. As in real life, when a baby cries, you must attend to its every need, such as changing it and feeding it. You cannot simply ignore it because then you are neglecting your child.Another difficulty I encountered was the fact that I had to be very careful with the baby. At times I would forget about holding it in an upright position and it would start to cry. Similarly, when a mother is...

Horde, Trooper, and Towards Horde, Trooper, and Towards Horde, Trooper, and Towards By Maeve Maddox Some usage errors are so widespread that readers begin to wonder if theyââ¬â¢re mistaken about the correct form. horde/hoard A reader came across the phrase ââ¬Å"hoards of databasesâ⬠used to mean ââ¬Å"many databases.â⬠He thought the usage was incorrect, but as the usage was printed in ââ¬Å"a best selling book from quite a famous publisher,â⬠he doubted his own judgment: ââ¬Å"My question is: is the incorrect usage becoming acceptable nowadays?â⬠No, horde and hoard still have different meanings. Yes, it should. A troupe is a performing group, like a ballet troupe or an acting troupe. The word trooper refers to military or paramilitary personnel. Although one does expect troopers to be tough and hardworking, trouper is the word that is used with the meaning ââ¬Å"a brave, hardworking, persistent, dedicated person.â⬠See â⬠Trooper or Trouper?â⬠toward/towards Finally, a reader is puzzled by an interview with an American speaker who was present when the bombs went off at the 2013 Boston Marathon: He keeps saying towards, for example, ââ¬Å"Several people have asked me why I ran towards the smoke.â⬠The usual take on the difference between toward and towards is that toward is American usage and towards is British usage. Fowler called towards the preferred usage and toward either ââ¬Å"literary or provincial.â⬠I usually write towards, but dutifully remove the s when revising. I suspect that other American speakers do also. The American AP Stylebook states flatly, ââ¬Å"toward: not towards.â⬠The Chicago Manual of Style adds a note about other directional words: The same is true for other directional words, such as upward, downward, forward, and backward, as well as afterward. The use of afterwards and backwards as adverbs is neither rare nor incorrect. But for the sake of consistency, it is better to stay with the simpler form. If you are writing for an American publication, go with toward. See â⬠Running Toward the House or Towards the House?â⬠Want to improve your English in five minutes a day? BOOK REVIEW THE MAN WHO KNEW TOO MUCH BY LEAVITT, DAVID Essay
BOOK REVIEW THE MAN WHO KNEW TOO MUCH BY LEAVITT, DAVID - Essay Example In his book The Man Who Knew Too Much: Alan Turing and the Invention of the Computer (Great Discoveries) the author David Leavitt presents his view on mathematics where he discusses the inability of the subject mathematics to penetrate the popular culture. He presents his idea through the life of Alan Turing, the famous mathematician and self-proclaimed homosexual, who decoded the 'enigma' machine during the WWII. The writer argues that where other subjects like literature and law can be discussed with common nonprofessional mathematics on the other hand seems to be subjected for only few that according to the author may be represented as bliss of sixth sense. It is painful for the mathematicians to feel all lonely and is not able to discuss matters of their subject with the commoners as that would not be understandable by anyone. This is a sense of isolation and though however beautiful that the world of mathematics the writer considers this isolation to be difficult to handle. Nevertheless, he is optimistic that with the development of the human intelligence, ultimately all would master the art of mathematics and though he himself refers it as an utopian thought he cannot stop thinking that mathematics should be perceptible by all or at least all should try for that.

Sex Education Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words - 2
Sex Education - Essay Example Sometimes, when children ask where babies come from, parents would respond that babies come from storks and would stop at that explanation. Seeing that there is not enough information about sex and sexuality from the family, a teen would turn to other sources of information such as the television, movies, music, magazines, the internet, friends and even boyfriends and girlfriend. The television, movies, and music most of the times treat sex and sexuality as something that can be done anywhere, with anyone, and can be done without any responsibilities. Most of these media sources also show sex and sexuality as a way to be cool, is equal to showing affection to someone, and can be done without worry-free and without risks. Some even exaggerate about sex and sexuality and as a result they send off the wrong information. Some examples of these false information are having more than one sexual partner is alright, protection against sexually transmitted diseases is not necessary, you look cool and you become a hunk when you have had sex with lots of girls, having sex with someone you had just met is cool and acceptable, and o ther false beliefs about sex and sexuality. Magazines and the internet are also the same with television, movies and music. However, magazines and the internet are more popularly known to have been used for improper information about sex and sexuality that at times these materials are classified as illegal. In magazines and the internet, sex and sexuality is simply naked bodies of men and women and no scientific or academic explanation can be obtained from these sources. Though some magazines and some sites from the internet are educational and can be sources of proper explanation for sex and sexuality, those providing incorrect information are more common than those that give the right information. Some false information we get from magazines and the internet

Chicken Run Essay
The implications if a major customers had gone into is level, it will affect the company cash flow because every payment received the company may have to use it to cover its operating expenses apart from getting profit. Accumulated debtors will show the collection department performance. Low cash flow will affect many areas in an organization. The company may have to make another loan to run it business. Other than that it may have problem to run the business if the cash flow is low. For example, if the company unable to pay the suppliers on time. The supplier may stop to supply product to the company. If the suppliers really stop supplying product, the company may face problem to produce product. This will directly affect the company sales because its fail to produce product to its customers. If the company do not work hard to reduce this important area they may be looking at legal remedies, or even write off debts and that means spending money to get money. The other implication is that, the company will have a very unhealthy debtorââ¬â¢s aging. Where it is supposed to be a guidelines to the company. For example when a debtor reach it limit, the company should be alerted to chase payment based on the debtors aging. But in this case, Encik Selamat has been giving authority to the marketing department to continue supply products to Cold Gold Sdn Bhd because of the closed relationship. Indirectly, it shows that Encik Selamat does not performing his duty rationally. Which effect his image as a manager. He is supposed to show his leadership by having a very good judgement. For example to stop supply products to Cold Gold Sdn Bhd until they settle their debts. Refer to the case Chicken Run; i) How would you assess the financial health of the company? I would assess the financial health of the company based on the gross profit of the company. The higher the gross profit the healthier it is. Of course we have to consider the operating expenses of the company but operating expenses are still under the company control and discretion before we can get the net profit. Other than that, I would assess the financial health of the company by obtaining a history of your companyââ¬â¢s financial statements. Five yearsââ¬â¢ worth is usually a good base. Next, convert the financial statements to common size. Common size financial statements are simply a companyââ¬â¢s financials expressed in the form of percentages rather than dollars. A common size format readily identifies trends and growth patterns. Additionally, since industry benchmark data is often produced in this format, it makes it easier to compare the results with the competition. Industry benchmark information can be obtained from a commercial vendor, accountant, or depending upon the industry, from trade associations. Next, financial ratios are calculated. There are a number of ratios to choose from. Some of the more common measure liquidity, debt coverage, leverage, and operating and profit performance. Their relevance is dependent upon your company, its operating characteristics and the industry. Bankers and accountants can be especially useful in identifying the more pertinent ratios. The information gathered thus far is analyzed and compiled on a trended, composite and industry basis. The results of this analysis, when performedà regularly, help you to monitor and recognize the vital statistics necessary for the success and growth of your business. The benefits of this assessment include: Competitive Advantages & Disadvantages An industry assessment enables you to identify your companyââ¬â¢s strengths and weaknesses and acquire valuable information on the competition. Budgeting & Forecasting Studying trends and growth patterns is a very effective preliminary step in preparing internal budgets and forecasts. Strategic Planning Recognizing specific performance measurements (company and industry) will help to set goals and objectives for the future (e.g., increasing sales, gross profit margins, and net income). Acquisition Opportunities Knowledge of key performance measurements assists in the evaluation of a proposed sale, merger or acquisition. Focus Greater awareness of the interrelationship of the financial statements and a complete understanding of financial operations allows you to focus on the areas important to the growth and success of your business. ii) What would you suggest as appropriate course of actions? As an appropriate course of actions, I would suggest the directors to refer the ââ¬Å"Malaysian Code on Corporate Governance 2012â⬠as a guidelines to take action against Encik Selamat which involves in unethical activities such as conflict of interest and lack of integrity. Other than that, the internal control of the company should be revised. For example the debtor collection procedures. It has to follow proper standard operating procedures such as when invoices issue to a customers, the payment terms must follow the credit period. Any payment overdue must be chase every month. If it reach the 120 days amount overdue, warning letter should beà issue to the debtors, then stop supplying product to the debtors until payment made. Besides that, Internal Audit must be done regularly. This is to audit the operation run based on the standard operating procedures. Any discrepancy found must be rectify immediately to avoid any unwanted issue to happen. For example, Ms Choy has discovered that the credit limit of Cold Gold Sdn Bhd, one of its major customers had gone into its level and yet the marketing department continued to supply products to the company. If the company do internal audit regularly, this issue may not happen because the internal auditor will detect the problem while it is still under early stage. Other than that, this will avoid Encik Selamat from making unethical activities due to his awareness from the internal auditor. Monthly meeting also can help in this case. Where, Encik Selamat required to report the company performance monthly. In this case, the company should have monthly credit meeting. The purpose of this meeting is to make sure all debtors are monitored closely. Any amount hanging in the debtors aging should have remarks or the status should have been identified. For example, if the debts is not paid within the 30 days period, it should state the reason why? At least we know that chasing of debts run actively by the collection department. If the debtors do not pay according to their credit period, the management at least can give suggestion and acknowledge about that issue.

Introduction Professor Tania Murray Li is a distinguished woman. She is a professor in the Department of Anthropology at the University of Torontoââ¬â¢s downtown campus where she also serves as the director of the Centre for Southeast Asian Studies, and the Canada Research Chair in the Political-Economy and Culture of Asia. The twenty years she spent in Indonesian island of Sulawesi afforded her rich material to write her book entitled ââ¬Å"Landââ¬â¢s End: Capitalist Relations on an Indigenous Frontierâ⬠, which was published in 2014; an article in the Journal of Peasant Studies, among other things, entitled ââ¬Å"Food Sovereignty: A Critical Dialogueâ⬠, and to give an interesting lecture at the University of Toronto Scarborough entitled ââ¬Å"Capitalism from Above and Belowâ⬠.
